Department’s Brief History

The Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Literature was established in the 2004 academic year of the Republic of China. The founding purpose of the department, in addition to the general goals of the foreign language department, also has the function of cultivating talents for Tzu Chi institutions. It was originally intended to cultivate students’ English and American (including European) literary literacy, and to cultivate cultural talents with English ability and English and American literary literacy. However, since the 2023 academic year, the educational development goals of this department have changed, focusing on cultivating English/Spanish teaching talents, business English/Spanish application talents and multi-media culture application talents.

Currently, there are 7 full-time teachers (three associate professors, three assistant professors, and one lecturer), as well as outstanding part-time teachers. There are currently 71 students enrolled in the department, with a teacher-student ratio of approximately 1:10. In accordance with school regulations, each subject taught by full-time teachers can be started with eight electives, ensuring that each student gets the most adequate learning opportunities. In addition to a variety of compulsory and elective subjects, the department holds drama performances every year to showcase students’ English learning achievements; senior students are required to work in groups to conduct special research reports, write papers, give oral presentations and accept questions to demonstrate their arguments and discussions. ability.

At present, there are hundreds of graduates, most of whom are engaged in language service-related work, or based on language, they have entered into different fields for further study and development to serve the society.
